Thought....

Note: We just posted a rad Family shoot right under this post, so check it out... This is just my Monday night thought....

I am here at Image X in New Orleans,  helping Jessica Claire out with her amazing workshop. She is doing an outstanding job teaching 30 photographers a day and sharing all her wisdom! Something that has inspired me today is all the "love" in the room. Out of the 30 people that I met today, I love all 30 of them and hate 1... The  "1" is me! I hate that I am not showing the love at all times. I found myself seeing "newer" photographers needing encouragement and I tried my best to give it today, so why don't I do this when I am sitting in front of the computer?
I am inspired to do more blog commenting and sharing the "love". Tiffany made my night....She is a blog commenter on our blog. She seems to always be the first to blog comment and she is always so positive.  I am very encouraged by tiffany and all the other blog commenters that love and support us!

I am going to leave with this question.... Why don't people share the love on each others blogs? Why do only a few photographers leave comments? Why do I/people look at blogs for a few hours a week and not stay an extra 30 sec and write a nice little comment?

Well get ready world! I am going to be sharing the love!!!!
Candice

i am brand new at this photog thing but your blog is one of my many i look at for encouragement. i have a passion for this but often get discouraged when shooting. your post reminded me that the love i get from friends and family is what is keeping me going!!!

Candice, you are a crack up! You have been totally encouraging to me as a new photographer. Educating me on this blog, inviting me to dinner, and commenting on my blog from time to time. You're the best and I love how you always strive to be better!

hurray! i'm going to start sharing the love too!

it was nice meeting you today candice! i enjoyed hearing your advice as well as jessicas!

i want you to know that i think you guys are kind giving and you always give time to everyone. you don't even know me and you answer all my stalking emails. i'm in awe. i can't believe you'd have the time for me. as cheesy as it sounds, it makes me want to pay it forward when i get more knowledge.

That's something I've been working on--sharing the love with other people by commenting. I remember getting my first comment from you. It made my day! My best friends don't even comment on my blog, so I really appreciate hearing from other people.

Candice, you are such a sweetheart -- although I have not met you nor Mark, I found you through Jasmine Star, who (whom? I dunno) I found through Becker, whom (I'm just gonna say that, because I love that word) I found through Jessica Claire, whom I actually met at the DWF convention this year, and know that she is wonderful, as you do, I assume, since you are with her right now! Anyway, all that jibberjabber above was to prove that staying connected to your fellow photographers is the best -- I feel like we are in one big art class and we can all critique, encourage and inspire each other every day! I try to comment as much as possible, but now you have inspired me to comment at least once per day! Thanks for all your blogging!

This is a great post Candice. I feel like the busier I've become the less I comment on blogs or even visit them at all anymore. Good reminder. Love and miss you guys!

Candice, soooo true, but the only false thing is that you are very loving. I've seen several times where you've left nice words on my blog! I love you for that! You rip, thanks for the inspiration.

I think you are loving... I just figured you were too busy to even look at other peoples blogs, let alone comment on them! :)

Oh and great family session.

Oh wait, my other comment didn't show. Well, I make it a habit, that every blog I visit, I at least leave a comment.

Just adding a lil' more love to your blog to the others already shared. :)

Hope you two are having a blessed time in NO!

I agree. A little blog love goes a long way. Every comment I get is like a little morsel of encouragement... Well said!

P.S. I'm totally jealous you get to be at ImageX. Hope you're having a blast!

hehe this is funny because I AM one of those commentors. I love reaching out and talking about the photos, etc. Some blogs NEVER write back and it discourages me a little bit!

I think it's great to reach out, even if it's not to every single post, but if we all make a little effort sometimes you never know what will come out of it!

Sounds like a fun time! I'd way rather be there!!!

ps- I am positive I have received at least a few lovely comments from you guys:)!!! (And it totally made my day!)

Such a great post Candice, I've been trying to take cues and have made it a goal to visit and comment on the blog roll posted at [b] school. It's always so nice when you get an unexpected comment!!

UMMM WHY CAN'T WE BE IN NEW ORLEANS?!?!?!?

Candice,

I often look at your blog & don't leave comments but I wanted to stop for 5 seconds before I head back to work (teaching) and let you know that this was a truly inspiring post & I will definitely be leaving more love on blogs that I read too!

Have an amazing day!
:) Erin

Candice that’s so awesome of you! I’m not going to lie…when I got my comment from you guys a while back – it totally made my day! Lol some times I don’t think any one looks at my blog at all (not that my posts are all that exciting most the time). And just that fact that people care enough to stop by and to give me advise or their opinions means the world to me! :) I’m sure other people feel the same way when great photographers leave love on their blogs too! It’s just nice to be given a little direction to know you are heading in the right direction, or even some constructive criticism. You are awesome!!

This is me...leaving the love!
You guys are amazing and WOW on the family session! What a good looking family!

I am totally guilty of this as well and want to thank you for making me realize it!! :) I'm on a mission to share the love everyday as well. By the way...great family shoot!!

Great post. I think sometimes the overwhelming pressure to squeeze more hours out of a day makes 30 seconds seem like a hefty chunk of time. We have to remind ourselves to stop and breathe. I have quite the opposite situation on my site. I know I have a lot of readers on my blog, averaging 12,000 direct hits a month (not counting blog reader hits) yet I RARELY get a comment. So strange. I know that for me I use google blog reader so to make a comment, I have to go to the site directly. I read every one of your posts, love you work and personalities even more so. I'll try to share more love as well!

MsB said...

I use Google Reader for all my RSS feeds and, unless a set of images has blown me away so much that I would have to leave a comment then, I just keep scrolling. But, I also discovered that some successful photographers are too busy to "return da favor." I can totally understand that since they'd get hundreds of comments per post ... until I see them frequently leave comments on their network-friends blogs. So, I figured they have plenty of comments on their blogs, I'll just worry about my mine.

Thank you Candice!! That is the coolest thing I have had happen to me in a while ~ It may seem like such a small thing but something that came just as I needed it and just at the right time~ :)
You guys are so great!!

Hi Candice - What a good question. I know that I need to give out a more blog love, more often! As someone who is just learning...I need to step up and say thank you to those of you who are an inspiration!! THANK YOU - you are an awesome team!! :)

The first time we got a comment from you on our blog, we were so excited! It is so encouraging!!
I'm just jealous that we don't live in Cali near you so that we could learn more from you!

guilty as charged. thanks for this I totally needed it. I spend most of my days griping that no one comments on our blog and wondering how everyone else is blowing up! what a loser... I love your blog and i look at it ALL the time. Thanks for the kick in the pants I totally needed. I hope you're having fun in New Orleans. I really wish I could be sitting and soaking up some Jessica Claire goodness right now. Call me when you have some time I'd love to go shoot or just hang with the hubbies. :) Fly home safe!

Good point. Thanks for sharing. I am a blog stalker and i stalk a lot of blogs. lol
You're right I need to start taking 30 sec. to post a comment. Thanks for the kick in the pants.
BTW, I LOVE the family sesh. below. You ROCK.

Great post! I've visited your site a couple of times before but just came back now after a brief hiatus.. and I'm so glad I did! I try to comment on blogs as much as possible but still shamefully slack off every once in awhile. We all know how awesome it feels to get that comment and it's really so easy to spend those few seconds to makes others feel the same way :) Anyway, LOVE your work and your upbeat attitude (which is infectious even through the web!) Will definitely be giving more blog love here in the future!! :)

I've never left a comment on another photographer's blog... so here is my first after checking this one religiously!
Your photography is inspiring (and intimidating at times)!

i suppose the real reason i never comment on your blog is because i don't KNOW you & feel a bit creeper-ish for stalking the blog. :)

But, I am a new photographer and love love love your work. Thanks for sharing - its a regular source of inspiration for me and helpful to see how quickly you guys have succeeded!

Thought I show some love here tonight. :D

I'm a subscriber to your blog and check out your latest post whenever it's up. I don't really leave comments to blogs I visit because 1) blog owners rarely respond back, 2) I have a daytime job, then come home to take care of my daughter and processing photos, then weekends are off to shoot weddings, so I have very limited time even to spend a minute to post comment (a minute is precious to me, I guess), 3) I must be lazy! :D

Anonymous said...

Hi! I'm new to your blog and I wanted to say I really like your work. I laughed when I read this post because it basically describes my morning...checking out blogs and loving the pictures but feeling shy about commenting, so I rarely do. I'll take my cue from you and comment more often. =) Also, I really like the tones in the family shoot post. Thanks for the thoughts and beautiful pictures.

Great post! I've been trying hard to show some love after being inspired by the king and Queen of all commenters - the Baxters! Now I have you to inspire me!

Good question! I try to leave comments on everyones blog I get to look on, some I'm way behind on reading :( But wonder the same thing you ask. It can be a bit discouraging.
